What do they do in the pros? Physiotherapy in elite sport requires the same skillset we use in the clinic, however a diagnosis has to be faster, injuries need to be treated quickly but most importantly, effectively. The goal is to not only return safely, but the athlete must be able to perform at the highest level.
As sports physiotherapists we often have more information about our athletes to begin with from preseason screening data, working with them daily, an understanding of their gym and training programs among many other factors. There is a lot going on in team sport that fans don’t get to see and we work with a multitude of other health professionals, coaches and managers to be prepared and monitor athlete health, facilitate athletic development and ultimately strive for success as a group. Problem solving or clinical reasoning as we call it in the medical field, becomes a lot more powerful and effective than the most expensive piece of equipment.
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Physiotherapist Title is a measure of career progress. It represents a physiotherapist who is highly qualified in a particular area of practice. Those that have attained the APA Physiotherapist Title have undergone a rigorous selection process to prove their clinical experience and knowledge. Additional to an undergraduate Physiotherapy Degree, Daniel has completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy and as such, been awarded the Title of Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist. You don’t need to be an athlete to be part of the Clinic 1 Physiotherapy community, we just want to help you feel and move the way you should, whatever your goals may be.
Practicing in a sporting setting allows us at Clinic 1 Physiotherapy to use the same concepts in a team environment and apply them to your particular situation and set of circumstances. While we are experts in anatomy, diagnosis and treatment, we have gained skills and knowledge of strength and conditioning, exercises for injury prevention, load management, and how these interact and apply them to the stage of the season for each athlete. It is this understanding and ‘big picture’ approach to ensure we have a completed full rehabilitation from injury and a successful return to sport without missing any vital steps. The only thing better than a successful rehab is prevention though!
