Biomechanical Screening

Have your ever wondered how some people get bigger, stronger and faster with every offseason, or know someone who always seem to get injured, while others remain healthy? Perhaps screening and an individualised approach may provide the answer you’re looking for.

What Is screening?

Biomechanical or often termed Musculoskeletal Screening involves a series of tests specific to an individual and their chosen sport or activity, to detect risk factors for injury, and potential barriers to athletic performance.  We will usually complete a brief questionnaire prior to the consult to better understand your past medical and injury history, your current training loads, and the demands required for your sport. Once we have an understanding about you and your specific set of circumstances, we can complete an objective assessment guided by the evidence of injury prevention, and optimization of movement efficiency.  The tests we use have been extensively researched and found to be reliable and valid in regard to influencing injury risk.

Common tests may include:

  • Range of motion
  • Motor Control
  • Strength
  • Power
  • Endurance
  • Balance, Proprioception & Agility
  • Cardiovascular Fitness & Movement Under Fatigue
  • Biomechanical Evaluation of Functional Activities
  • Posture & Symmetry

Individualised Plan of Attack

From the information gathered with these tests, we can provide an individualised and sport specific plan to reduce the chances of injury and improve athletic capabilities.  The treatment plan will involve identification of areas to improve and how to best approach each area of interest, maximise your strengths and tick boxes to set you up for success considering the common injuries associated with your sport and evaluated athletic profile.  We will consider if you have access to equipment or just bodyweight exercises and provide the necessary adjustments to ensure we can help you reach your athletic potential.

Professional Approach

At the elite level our players complete several screens throughout the season, including the start of the pre-season, after any non-contact injuries during competition, and at the completion of the year to best plan the off-season ahead and become more athletic over time.  We can work directly with you and/or involve your current strength and conditioning staff, or trainers to safely build a better athlete.
